Create quality jobs in Industry 4.0: DPM Tharman
PUBLISHED ON 19 Oct 2018
The Government has to work with educators and employers to create high-quality jobs across all sectors in the economy says Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Speaking at the inaugural Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific (ITAP) 2018, DPM Tharman reiterated the challenge of creating jobs in the climate of the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0. "It's a challenge because one way or another, if we succeed in improving speed and efficiency, manufacturing in the long term will not have as many jobs. There will be jobs but they will be higher quality jobs but there will not be as many," added DPM Tharman.

What is important for Singapore to capture opportunities in this Industrial Revolution, is for the Government to not only work with various stakeholders which includes trade associations but to also tweak and rethink regulations to drive innovation, said Minister of Trade and Industry Mr Chan Chin Sing who was also at the event.
