In commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP), the People’s Action Party’s Seniors Group (PAPSG) reiterated their commitment to recognising the contributions and aspirations of our seniors. At its IDOP 2024 commemorative event, themed ‘Rewriting The Next Chapter’, the PAPSG unveiled the PAPSG Playbook – a comprehensive resource designed to strengthen and refresh current efforts across all 93 PAP branches to help seniors thrive in our community.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Manpower and PAPSG Chairperson Dr Tan See Leng said, “In my speech last year, I mentioned how PAPSG should actively cultivate a culture of 3 Rs – Respect, Regard, and Recognition – towards our older generation. In the spirit of renewal, I want to add another R today – and that is what our Refreshed PAPSG can do.”
He added, “Singapore is ageing, but it not a challenge to be feared – rather, it is an opportunity for us to tap into the wealth of wisdom and experience that our seniors collectively have to offer…Let’s build a future where our seniors enjoy the respect, opportunities, and care they deserve.”

Enhanced support for seniors at every PAP branch
A new PAPSG Playbook will guide every PAP branch to strengthen their capabilities and streamline the assistance provided to seniors across the island. It provides initiatives that each division to support seniors in aspects such as senior employability, retirement adequacy, senior housing, and healthcare and social support.
PAPSG Vice-chairperson and IDOP 2024 Organising Chairperson, Henry Kwek elaborated, “The PAPSG Playbook builds upon years of research and feedback, incorporating best practices from our Members-of-Parliament and branches from their everyday interactions with seniors. We also partnered experts in relevant fields for these solutions. While every branch already offers support for our seniors in various ways, this playbook will help ensure all seniors enjoy consistent yet tailored access to support, bringing us closer to achieving an age-friendly ecosystem.”
About 300 activists and partners attended the event, where they previewed the Playbook through a pop-up exhibition. The exhibition outlined the Playbook’s recommended initiatives to be implemented across all PAP branches and traced the PAPSG’s advocacy efforts over the years.
Over the next year, the PAPSG will organise about 200 events and activities island-wide through all PAP branches to benefit our seniors. PAPSG remains dedicated to advocating for an age-friendly Singapore where our seniors can thrive and live life to their fullest.
