The People’s Action Party has announced the following candidate representing the PAP to stand for election at Hougang Single Member Constituency (SMC): 

• Marshall Lim 

Marshall was introduced today at the PAP Hougang branch office, where he shared his motivations to step forward and sought the mandate to represent Hougang residents. 

About Marshall Lim

Marshall Lim 林于暉  

As a criminal lawyer in both the public and private sectors for over a decade, Marshall Lim believes in the power of law and policy in effecting societal change for good. 

In the public service, Marshall served as Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, and then as Assistant Chief Public Defender in the Public Defender’s Office. As a Public Defender, he defended persons of limited means facing charges in criminal courts and designed policies to improve access to justice for vulnerable persons.  

Marshall also undertook pro bono legal work in both civilian and military criminal courts, and served on several Law Society Committees. Serving in the community, he delivered legal awareness talks to teachers and students under the aegis of “Project Schools” – a community outreach programme organised by the Law Society’s Pro Bono Services.  

Outside of the law, Marshall is a strong supporter of continuing education. He believes that education should instil in students the joy of lifelong learning and help them discover the best version of themselves. He speaks at Continuing Professional Development events, where he shares his love for and knowledge of the law with legal and non-legal professionals. 

Marshall is also deeply concerned about social cohesion in a world where our differences are amplified and fault lines emphasised. In an increasingly polarised world, he hopes to be able to bring people together with kindness, and to remember that our shared humanity is greater than all our differences.
