Holistic assistance via social services network

Singaporeans will have better and more targeted assistance through the Social Services Offices (SSOs) which will be working even more closely with community partners.

Minister for Social and Family Development Mr Desmond Lee said that the social service delivery on the ground will be strengthened by creating partnerships on the ground. “Town by town, my SSOs will, in the course of this year, organise networking sessions,” he added.

The networking sessions will involve representatives from SSOs and the community including grassroots, family service centres, volunteer welfare organisations and schools. “Put a face and a name behind a telephone number and an email,” will be a platform for them to get to know each other and to facilitate help for families. These plans for SSOs to be the touchpoints for residents to seek help and this was announced during the Committee of Supply Debate this year.

Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC, Ms Joan Perera commented that these sessions will enable the partners to know what each other are doing, to prevent duplication of resources to the same family and at the same time, gaps can also be plugged to provide holistic help for families.
