Poh Li San – Visit to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

I believe that everyone can take an active role in nurturing our environment for sustainable growth. In Sembawang West, we have built a strong rapport with residents who have expressed their appreciation for our sustainability outreach efforts, even throughout the pandemic.

One of our recent efforts include the visit to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve in February 2023. We aim to raise awareness of sustainable living and encourage participants to practice sustainability by changing some personal habits such as reducing waste, energy conservation and saving resources for sustainable growth.

The 3.2km Sungei Buloh Coastal Trail is a popular trail suitable for beginners and has rich and indigenous fauna and flora. With the help of a qualified nature guide, participants learnt about the important contribution of mangrove plants to the environment, in terms of sequestrating carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Residents and activists also learnt about the significant roles we play in climate change and green efforts. Through the ecological trail along the coast, we discover the true extent of biodiversity in Singapore and how our efforts, no matter what they are, contribute to strengthening the green effort.

In PAP Women's Wing, we take action to protect our environment. We recognise that climate change and environmental degradation pose significant threats to our society and future generations, and we believe that it is our responsibility to act.
