PAP town councils will allocate $45 million over the next five years to improve the safety and reliability of lifts.

The PAP Town Councils’ Coordinating Chairman Mr Teo Ho Pin said in a press release that the PAP Town Council Lift taskforce had four recommendations which have been accepted by the 15 PAP town councils. The recommendations are to implement steps to enhance the safety of lifts; improve lift servicing and maintenance regime; monitor the performance of lifts and lift contractors; and to work with HDB for protocols on lifts.

The taskforce also recommended that the town councils install lift surveillance systems that can provide around the clock monitoring for security and safety purposes. In addition, town councils are urged to incorporate eight safety features for the Lift Enhancement Programme (LEP).

The LEP will also be a priority for the town councils over the next 10 years based, on the age and performance of the lifts.
