Ministry of Home Affairs in its Committee of Supply Debate shared its plans in Parliament today.

  • New Career Track for all Home Affairs Officers

Second Minister of Home Affairs Josephine Teo said that the Ops-Tech Career Track will have structured pathways to enhance operational experience and exposure to technology. This new career track complements the opening of the Home Team Science and Technology Agency last  December.

Officers from this track will serve as intermediaries between HTX and the Home Team departments.

  • Inter-Ministry Committee to combat scams

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Sun Xueling said that MHA together with the Ministry of Communications and Information and the Ministry of Trade and Industry will be setting up and Inter-Ministry Committee on Scams, to formulate and execute a comprehensive strategy to combat such crimes.

The committee will look into deterring potential perpetrators and limit their ability to conduct operations in Singapore, and at the same time mitigate losses incurred by victims and ensure the public is vigilant and wary of scams.

  • Raising Retirement Age

Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam said that the retirement age of officers under the Home Affairs Uniformed Scheme will be raised from 55 years old to 58 years old by 2030.

This will allow the experience of more mature officers to be tapped.

The Ministry will also enhance its efforts to help officers secure a meaningful second career after retiring from the Home Team.

  • Review Laws to better tackle psychoactive substances

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Amrin Amin said that laws will be reviewed to better deal with the rising threat of new psychoactive substances, and stay ahead of drug trends, coupled with robust enforcement and effective preventive drug education.
