Women have made lots of sacrifices, making a difference to their families and nation building said Minister of Manpower Mrs Josephine Teo during Budget debate on 28 February 2019.

Government schemes such as the Bicentennial Bonus CPF top-ups are like a tribute for women. 60% of 300,000 Singaporeans that will benefit from this top-ups are women. In addition 65% of the Silver Support scheme recipients are also recipients.

On the CPF top-ups, Mrs Teo explained, “It recognises that they have had fewer years to build up their retirement savings.”

Er Dr Lee Bee Wah, Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC also reiterated how CPF top-ups can help women achieve retirement adequeacy, highlighting the available option for Singaporeans to top-up their mothers’ or wives’ CPF accounts.

Many women MPs also spoke about how women have played a role in nation building, but more can be done to bridge gender gaps.

MP for Jurong GRC Mdm Rahayu Mahzam added that while women in Singapore have access to education and jobs, there is still much that can be done in particular representation of women in key positions.
