Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said in an interview with Nikkei Asian Review that the leadership baton will be passed after the next general election. “Sometime in the next term, not too long after the next general election,” said Mr Lee.

Mr Lee had earlier appointed Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat as Deputy Prime Minister in May during a cabinet reshuffle. Mr Heng also chairs the Future Economy Council and the National Research Foundation.

DPM Heng was also nominated as PAP’s 1st Assistant Secretary-General and is set to helm the 4G Leadership with Minister Chan Chun Sing who is PAP’s 2nd Assistant Secretary-General.
