A 12-member delegation from the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by Vice Minister of the CPC’s Central Committee International Department Sun Hai Yan, visited Singapore from 2nd to 6th December 2024, at the invitation of the People’s Action Party (PAP).
During their visit, the CPC delegation met with Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Foreign Affairs, PAP Central Executive Committee Member and Chairperson of the PAP HQ EXCO External Relations Sub-Committee Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and Senior Minister of State for Defence and Manpower and Deputy Leader of the House Zaqy Mohamad.
The delegation also met with Senior Minister of State for Digital Development & Information and Health and Young PAP (YP) Chairperson Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and National Development, PAP Central Executive Committee Member and PAP Women’s Wing (WW) Chairperson Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community & Youth and Trade & Industry, PAP Assistant Organising Secretary and WW Vice-Chairperson Low Yen Ling and PAP Assistant Organising Secretary and Executive Director of the PAP HQ, Alex Yam, in addition to PAP MPs and party activists. Both sides exchanged views on party organisation, national policies and good governance. Both parties also reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the bilateral relationship between Singapore and China and party-to-party interactions.
In March 2023, Lee Hsien Loong, then Prime Minister and PAP Secretary-General, and Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, met and agreed to further exchanges between their respective parties. This visit follows up on that meeting.
