About the team
Choo Pei Ling 朱佩玲 博士 , 38
Dr Choo Pei Ling is a neuroscientist and physiotherapist trained in the United Kingdom. To multiply the impact of her work, she became an educator to train the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Dr Choo is currently Assistant Professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology where she is also Principal Investigator for multiple grant-funded research projects. Her transdisciplinary research works on optimising life after stroke as part of community health transformation, and exploiting multimodal brain imaging and kinematics to realise regenerative rehabilitation.
Dr Choo has been volunteering in the community for more than 20 years and has helped at Meet-the-People sessions for some years.
She is passionate about improving the quality of life for the aged and ill, nurturing the potential of the young, and building strong family and community bonds in Singapore.
Jeffrey Siow 萧振祥 , 46
Prior to joining politics, Jeffrey was a career public servant with more than two decades of experience, rising to the apex position of Permanent Secretary at the trade and industry and manpower ministries. As a member of the Administrative Service, Jeffrey started his career as a policy officer, working on manpower, education and transport policies to improve the lives of Singaporeans. Early highlights of his career include the creation of new avenues for polytechnic students to progress through establishing the Singapore Institute of Technology improving the scale, reliability and resiliency of our public transport system through bus contracting and rail financing, and expanding Singapore’s international space with bilateral projects such as the RTS Link with Malaysia.
More recently as a public sector leader, Jeffrey has focused on strengthening Singapore’s economy, supporting businesses and creating quality jobs. As the first Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Singapore, he led initiatives to transform local enterprises and trade associations, helping SMEs navigate the post-COVID-19 recovery.
He subsequently continued this effort as Second Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Trade and Industry as he led reforms in land use, manpower, and competition policy to boost SIngapore’s economic competitiveness. He also launched the SME Pro-Enterprise Office to cut red tape and foster a more business-friendly environment, while deepening economic ties with key partners such as ASEAN, the United States, and China. He further championed inclusive employment practices and introduced landmark legislation to prevent workplace discrimination in his concurrent appointment as Second Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Manpower. His efforts led to stronger protections for gig workers and expanded parental support, reflecting his belief that economic growth must go hand in hand with fairness and support for workers.
Tan See Leng 陈诗龙 , 60
As Manpower Minister, Tan See Leng prioritises uplifting vulnerable workers. He led the Jobs Taskforce that trained and matched locals into jobs in key sectors with growth potential and rolled out the Progressive Wage Model.
See Leng has a deep kinship with the community, spearheading municipal improvement works and pushing for projects to enhance accessibility. Believing new paths can emerge through setbacks and challenges, he supports local organisations that help the vulnerable and strengthen the community.
See Leng is married with three children. He enjoys singing and used to be in the school choir.
Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim 周凯年 , 44
A family man rooted in the community, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim believes in a personal approach that prioritises people over politics. In his constituency at Keat Hong, Zhul strives to better the infrastructure and amenities, promote interactions and inclusion, and improve welfare outreach. He made ground-up initiatives that brought about effective changes, including environmental and sustainability efforts such as food rescue and vegetable distribution, as well health-related programmes like complimentary TCM consultation and quarterly functional health screening for the elderly.
In Parliament, Zhul is a strong voice for women, youth, and children from disadvantaged households.
Zhul is married with four children.
