There are challenging times ahead for Singaporeans but Prime Minister and PAP Secretary-General Lee Hsien Loong has expressed hope that Singaporeans will come together as one united people to create the future that they want.

Wishing all Singaporeans a Happy New Year, Mr Lee said that four defining moments of the past year has given him the hope that Singapore and its people will succeed together.

PM Lee in his New Year Message – in video format for the first time stated that the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew; SG50 Celebrations; NDP Celebrations and the General Elections were the four defining moments of the year 2015.

Mr Lee said these moments were memorable because they showed the world and Singaporeans what a determined and united people can do. “Despite the threats of ISIS and jihadist terrorism, when other societies are troubled by intolerance and racial tensions, here in Singapore we rejoice in our multi-racial harmony. Where other countries are mired in political gridlock and pessimistic for the next generation, we in Singapore are united, hopeful and confident about our future.

“But most of all, these were moments when we came together, and took responsibility for one another. We wept, we sang, we celebrated, we bonded together, and emerged stronger as one united people,” stated PM Lee who added that he looked forward “to travelling the road ahead with all of you.”

2016 New Year Message

2015 has been a momentous year for Singapore. We showed the world – and ourselves – what Singapore can do, and why Singapore is a shining red dot. As SG50 draws to a close, these are four of my most memorable moments. Hope to hear your thoughts and personal reflections too. – LHL(PMO Video by Alex Qiu and Chiez How / Click here for transcript: )
