The first batch of students eligible for the new Edusave Skills Award will receive their honors this month, the Ministry of Education announced.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who is also Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, presented the awards to the deserving students in his constituency at a ceremony on 15 January 2017 at Townsville Primary School.

In a Facebook post, PM Lee encouraged students to keep it up in the new academic year and urge them to make use of the learning opportunities that the schools offer. “At the same time, I hope you will do more to help your peers and others around you so that together, we can build a better Singapore for all,” he added.

Every year, about 3,500 students will be recognised for the Edusave Skills Award.

The award, first announced in January last year by then-Acting Education Minister Ong Ye Kung, is open to students in specialised schools, Institutes of Technical Education and polytechnics.

It is aligned with the national SkillsFuture movement, and recognises students who have demonstrated excellent application of course-specific skills as well as soft skills in the course of their studies.
