Festive celebrations in MacPherson are brought closer to residents with various programmes and community activities. Under the We Care programme, PAP activists organise activities for community engagement with residents in MacPherson.

The We Care @ MacPherson programme has not just helped the low-income families in the constituency, but also brought residents from all walks of life closer. Initiated in 2013 by Ms Tin Pei Ling (Member of Parliament for MacPherson), the programme gathers the residents and the community to care for the less fortunate and give back to society.

During this year’s Lunar New Year, branch activists organised a Chinese calligraphy workshop. This exposed the adults and young children to the cultural aspects of this traditional activity. Even children had a go in writing with a calligraphy brush!

PAP MacPherson Branch activist and Branch Secretary Stephen Lim said that such programmes and activities are especially popular with the young families in the constituency.

“For many of our young families, they are often not at home or busy during the weekdays so weekend activities are always a good time to reach out to them, and get them involved in community activities. This way, they are also able to meet with their neighbours, and share any feedback or suggestions for their neighbourhood when they meet our activists, or Ms Tin,” he added.

Other than bonding activities for the family, We Care @ MacPherson is also a platform for the community to give back to those in need. For Christmas last year, residents participated and donated toys to a charity drive. The items were later distributed to children living in rental blocks in the constituency.
