In support of Jubilee Budget, PAP Seniors Group (PAP.SG) on February 25 proposed a few measures to enhance benefits to the seniors in the areas of Lifelong Learning, Retirement Adequacy and Silver Support Scheme.

It says in its press statement: “The Budget’s focus on enhancing our social safety net and ensuring stronger retirement adequacy will create a stronger sense of stability and security among Singaporeans.”

On Lifelong Learning, PAP.SG suggests that the workers should be able to benefit from training subsidies without employer support as a prerequisite. The agencies should also consider waiving the 10% fee for individual-directed learning for people with financial difficulty.

PAP.SG also suggests that the Ministry of Education and Workforce Development Agency create a special category for the SkillsFuture Study Awards and the SkillsFuture Fellowships to benefit older workers.

On the Silver Support Scheme, PAP.SG suggests making the scheme simple and flexible so those living in bigger flat types should not be disadvantaged. The Group also proposes to the Government to consider monthly payment instead of quarterly payment.

PAP.SG also supports the initiatives to benefit the older homemakers who have little or no savings, and encourages working Singaporeans to take advantage of higher CPF contributions to better protect the interests and welfare of their homemaker spouses.
