Introduction
Having seen his parents struggle to make ends meet as lower-wage workers, Mohd Fahmi Aliman is committed to helping lower-wage workers and other underprivileged Singaporeans.
Fahmi is a director in the NTUC, where he is involved in efforts to raise the incomes of lower-wage workers. He successfully led negotiations for progressive wages for waste management workers, and often speaks up for lower-wage workers in Parliament.
When in the army, Fahmi was deployed to Afghanistan under a United Nations Mission and Aceh, Indonesia under the Aceh Monitoring Mission, where he witnessed first-hand the fragility of peace and the importance of racial and religious harmony. He served as Deputy Chief Executive of the Islamic Council (MUIS) before joining politics, where his mission was to build strength in the Malay-Muslim community and racial harmony in Singapore. Currently, he oversees M3@Geylang Serai, where he has spearheaded initiatives for employment and employability.
As Mayor of South East district, Fahmi champions a caring community, lifelong learning and healthy living throughout the district and in his constituency. As the residents age gracefully, he welcomes and supports initiatives such as Redefining Kampung Eunos, where volunteers look out for isolated elderly and create activities for them, and a befrienders’ project partnering Changi General Hospital which looks out for seniors recently discharged from hospital.
In his spare time, Fahmi enjoys trekking, cycling, running, golfing and spending time with his family.
