The People’s Action Party’s (PAP) 1st Assistant Secretary-General (1ASG) Heng Swee Keat stressed that there are many critical decisions to be made that will profoundly shape Singapore’s future. The upcoming General Election will determine the next Government, and he trusted that Singaporeans would take these decisions very seriously, he added.

Unveiling the PAP’s first slate of new candidates for the upcoming election, Mr Heng said that Covid-19 has placed incredible stressors on societies, shocking economies and the geo-political system deeply and accelerating structural changes. He emphasised that Singapore needs to build its adaptive capacities to emerge stronger.

He added that Singaporeans will be selecting candidates for the next term of Parliament and in turn, selecting the Party to form the next Government that will need to deal with the challenges in the years ahead. Hence, he trusted that “Singaporeans will take these decisions very seriously.”

Mr Heng said that the PAP has been strengthening its capacity to serve the people and to take Singapore forward. The PAP will be contesting in all 93 seats in the upcoming General Elections. Describing the upcoming slate of candidates as “very interesting and diverse”, 1ASG Heng said that the Party is bringing in “more new faces from different segments of our society”. He added that the candidates can represent different segments of society and can surface voices from various interest groups.

Mr Heng is also extremely encouraged to see many Singaporeans who have taken opportunities to embark on different pathways, make headways to develop themselves fully in this process. What is even more encouraging, he noted, is that these Singaporeans have decided to step forward to serve, so that they can share their experiences, and continue this process of enabling more Singaporeans to succeed in the coming years.

The People's Action Party (PAP) introduced 8 new candidates today. We will be unveiling more candidates over the next…
