Mothers are the “super-glue” that hold families together and keep our society strong, said Minister for Manpower and PAP Women’s Wing (WW) Chairperson Mrs Josephine Teo at a special Bicentennial Tribute to Mothers to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Recognising the special woman in our lives, Mrs Teo praised all mothers for their efforts and sacrifices. Just as a mother wants the best for its child, the PAP Government also wants the best for its citizens, Mrs Teo said. “What mothers want for our children is also what PAP want for our people.  And that is, for every citizen to fulfil his or her potential, to lead full and happy lives,” she added at the event organised by WW. Mrs Teo, in her address, also called on Singapore women to support each other and to join hands to shape a brighter future for women and nation.

A special orchid hybrid was unveiled by Prime Minister and PAP Secretary-General Mr Lee Hsien Loong at the event. Lauding the selfless contributions of mothers, he dedicated it to all mothers in Singapore by naming the vibrant and elegant purple orchid: “Aranda Mothers of Singapore.”

To mark the special occasion, $200,000 was disbursed through the PAP’s community arm, the PAP Community Foundation, to ten charities with a focus on women in Singapore.
