Heng Swee Keat promoted to DPM

Mr Heng Swee Keat, the People’s Action Party’s Ist  Assistant Secretary-General, will be promoted to Deputy Prime Minister next month.

Announcing changes to the Cabinet, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Mr Heng will remain as Minister for Finance and continue to chair the Future Economy Council and the National Research Foundation.

He will also be the Acting Prime Minister in the Prime Minister’s absence.

Mr Teo Chee Hean and Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam will both relinquish their appointments as Deputy Prime Ministers and be appointed as Senior Ministers in the Cabinet.

Mr Teo will continue as Coordinating Minister for National Security while Mr Tharman will be re-designated as Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and continue advising PM Lee on economic policies.

These changes will take effect from 1 May 2019, said the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

There will be no other changes to the Cabinet and portfolios of other office holders.
