Introduction
Don Wee brings his passion for helping the underprivileged to his work in representing his constituents.
Growing up in a family where money was tight, Don chose to go to polytechnic instead of junior college so that he could contribute to the family finances earlier. It was only later in his career that he completed his degree in accountancy, and subsequently post-graduate degrees in business administration and public administration.
Don’s personal journey taught him that Singapore provides opportunities to those starting with less, but also that they often need help to grasp those opportunities. Therefore, he started volunteering as soon as he was able to, including various welfare organisations that help the underprivileged. Feeling that education has changed the course of his life, he also volunteers at several schools.
He got to know more about the challenges of those with mental health and mental capacity issues through volunteering with the Institute of Mental Health and the Office of the Public Guardian. Through his work in the banking industry and his involvement with the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, he is in touch with the challenges that SMEs (small and medium enterprises) face. Now, he speaks up for these groups as a Member of Parliament.
Don was elected to the new constituency of Brickland in Chua Chu Kang GRC in 2020. Alongside a new team of volunteers, he has launched programs to help needy residents, build a more sustainable way of life and create opportunities for all.
