Introduction
Edwin Tong wants to nurture a Singapore society that is diverse yet united.
Whether as the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth or as the Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association, he believes in bringing people together and supports the development of our culture, community, youth and sports groups. He actively leads efforts to strengthen the ties that bind such as volunteerism and racial and religious harmony.
Edwin has particularly made it his personal mission to keep sporting culture alive for the next generation. A big football fan who has always loved the collective roar of the Kallang Wave at every match, he launched the Unleash the Roar programme to grow more local football talent. He also led SportsSG to take over management of the Singapore Sports Hub so as to better grow it and the Kallang precinct into vibrant centres for sports in Singapore.
Before joining government, Edwin led internationally-renowned legal teams. As Second Minister for Law, he works to grow Singapore’s legal sector and the varied jobs it provides for Singaporeans, as well as to keep Singapore’s justice system accessible to all.
Within the wards he serves, Edwin strives to build a close-knit community and more liveable and vibrant estates.
